Law School Fit-Out

Challenge:

We were tasked with a challenging project for the Melbourne University Law School, using Tasmanian oak panels from our Aus perforated range. The main difficulty was grain matching all the veneer for the length of the ceiling. Some panels were up to 2100mm in width, whereas most veneer sheets are only 1200mm wide. This required us to ensure everything lined up continuously with the grain while also following the curves of the ceiling.

Solution:

To achieve this, we glued two veneer sheets together in width and then machined the panels to sizes up to 2100mm in width and over 2400mm in length. Our wide variety of equipment at our manufacturing facility allowed us to handle this complex task. Additionally, we had to contend with columns and various services throughout the space. The veneer was finished with a polished look, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the project.

Outcome:

The final installation successfully met the project’s demanding specifications, providing a seamless and visually appealing finish. The precise grain matching and careful handling of the curved ceiling, columns, and services resulted in a high-quality, polished look that met the client’s expectations.

IGGS Performing Arts Centre

Challenge:

We were tasked with manufacturing our Aus Slat product for the Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School – Performing Arts Centre. The project involved updating a tired, 30-year-old fit-out and presented numerous challenges due to its intricate design. This included curved paneling, stair cut-outs, multiple angles, doors, and fire services.

Solution:

We meticulously crafted over 1600 pieces, each three meters long, using solid American oak. The battens measured 35mm x 35mm. Ensuring precision and quality, we paid close attention to the varying colors and the intricate details required for each part.

Outcome:

The completed fit-out was a remarkable transformation. The variation in colour and the precise alignment of the numerous components resulted in a visually stunning and acoustically effective environment, showcasing the beauty and functionality of our Aus Slat product.
