Finlay Crisp Lobby

Challenge:

We received a call from one of our architects regarding issues with their lobbies due to a change in fire rating by the surveyor, from Group 3 to Group 1 and 2. This change required modifications to their design intent.

Solution:

After reviewing the drawings, we were able to adjust our designs to meet the new fire rating requirements while maintaining the original design intent. The architect selected one of our veneers with a black core MDF and one of our slat options, AUS Fins/Aus Slats, for the main lobbies over two buildings. The project spanned over 13 levels, with some areas being straightforward and others more intricate, involving doors, different ceiling heights, and lift buttons.

Outcome:

We produced this project during the lockdowns from our Melbourne manufacturing facility and shipped it to Canberra in multiple shipments. Our comprehensive range of fire-rated products in various materials allowed us to provide both decorative and acoustic solutions. The final installation successfully met the fire rating requirements and maintained the aesthetic and functional goals of the project.

IGGS Performing Arts Centre

Challenge:

We were tasked with manufacturing our Aus Slat product for the Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School – Performing Arts Centre. The project involved updating a tired, 30-year-old fit-out and presented numerous challenges due to its intricate design. This included curved paneling, stair cut-outs, multiple angles, doors, and fire services.

Solution:

We meticulously crafted over 1600 pieces, each three meters long, using solid American oak. The battens measured 35mm x 35mm. Ensuring precision and quality, we paid close attention to the varying colors and the intricate details required for each part.

Outcome:

The completed fit-out was a remarkable transformation. The variation in colour and the precise alignment of the numerous components resulted in a visually stunning and acoustically effective environment, showcasing the beauty and functionality of our Aus Slat product.
